In this blog, we'll share the latest news from the travel industry for the winter of 23-24 with you!
As of January 1st, Energy Labels are obligatory for Vacation Homes
Starting January 1st, it will be mandatory for vacation homes to display their energy label online. When searching and booking your vacation rental online, you can now see how energy-efficient and sustainable your stay will be. This information is especially useful for you as a consumer, especially when you separately pay for your energy consumption during the booking. Exceptions apply to tiny houses and similar accommodations with an area of up to 50m2.
Continued Growth in Luxury Camping Facilities
Luxury camping facilities have been popular for years in a row. The trend began with the rise of glamping tents and has since further developed. This way of staying is particularly popular due to the affordability of the vacation, the feeling of being close to nature, and going back to basics without missing amenities such as a shower, toilet, or bath.
2024 Declared the Year of the Forest
In the Netherlands, 2024 has recently been declared the Year of the Forest by the State Forest Management and Minister van der Wal. This not only draws attention to the value and quality of forests but also aims to increase awareness of sustainable nature policies, including sustainable recreation.
Rural Vacations Increasingly Popular
More and more vacationers are looking for a travel or vacation experience away from the crowds. The countryside seems to be the perfect place for this. Especially German and Belgian tourists are enthusiastic about the peace, space, and pure nature still found in the countryside. It is expected that this rise in popularity will continue in 2024.
France Closes Ski Slopes Again This Year
In recent years, several ski slopes in southeast France have closed, and this year, too, several municipalities have had to make the difficult decision to close previously very popular ski areas. Recently, the La Sambuy ski area was closed, and other ski regions, especially those located in the lower Alps, unfortunately have to close the slopes due to lack of snowfall. Despite the bad news for ski enthusiasts, the developments offer opportunities for hikers and cross-country skiers, for whom the areas are more than suitable.
Austria Again the Most Popular Winter Sports Destination
In the winter season of 2023/2024, Austria is once again the most popular winter sports destination. Despite the increase in ski vacations to Germany, Scandinavia, and Italy seen in recent years, charming Austria continues to lead. Accessibility of the ski areas, affordability of accommodations, and hospitality establishments likely play a role in this.
Night Train Slowly Making a Comeback in Europe
In 2023, more and more European cities were slowly added as direct train connections from various stations. With the winter sports season approaching, it is evident how various destinations in Austria, Italy, and Germany have become easily accessible in terms of travel time. This is due, in part, to direct connections and the reintroduction of night trains. However, train travel prices remain relatively high, so one cannot yet speak of a complete comeback.
